SIV complying funds and additional information

The Significant Investor Visa (SIV) programme was revised with the announcement in May 2015 of a new complying investment framework. The new framework mandated that SIV applicants would be required to invest a minimum of $500,000 at the at time of investment in an AusIndustry registered fund(s): that is, a Venture Capital Limited Partnership (VCLP), Early Stage Venture Capital Limited Partnership (ESVCLP) or an Australian venture capital fund-of-fund (AFOF) as registered under the Venture Capital Act 2002. The minimum amount is expected to be increased within two years as the market responds.

The Austrade website has more information regarding the SIV programme available, including information sheets in English and Chinese.

Guide to VC and growth PE in Australia

VCLP and ESVCLP vehicles are used by Australian venture capital (VC) and growth private equity (PE) funds to invest into Australian businesses. For investors or others interested in learning more about these funds, AVCAL has released a guide on VC and growth PE in Australia, which can be purchased here.

AVCAL member obligations

All members of AVCAL, including managers of SIV complying funds, are bound by a set of codes and guidelines which govern their conduct and obligations to investors and other stakeholders. The AVCAL Council has also recommended that AVCAL member General Partners (GPs) consider signing the Principles for Responsible Investing or similar frameworks.

More information about member conduct and governance can be found here. Links to valuation and reporting guidelines can be found here.
