April 2009
Dear AVCAL Colleague

AVCAL is currently working on a number of different policy fronts. We have been meeting with the "Australia as a Financial Centre Forum" secretariat about barriers to encouraging the funds management industry in Australia. They have been very diligent in canvassing the issues and discussing them in depth.

AVCAL has also continued to discuss the problems facing the VC fund managers and were pleased to see the first stage of assistance with the announcement of the IIFF (follow-on funding) support. We are disappointed that it only applies to a very limited number of companies that have already had IIF/PSF or BITS investment but hope that continued discussions with the Minister and department will lead to broader support for the industry.
