ASIC has released a consultation paper proposing to update and consolidate its takeover regulatory guidance. ASIC proposes to consolidate 17 existing regulatory guides into 4 new guides.

The Assistant Treasurer has released its policy options paper "Taxing Trust Income" and will be receiving submissions on these reform options until 3 December 2012.

Treasury consultation on ASIC takeover proposals

The Department of the Treasury has released an initial scoping paper on policy issues raised by ASIC regarding takeovers law. The Treasury scoping paper will form the basis of a series of targeted roundtables which Treasury will convene with key business, legal and markets stakeholders to discuss these issues.

Business Tax Working Group discussion paper released

On 13 Aug 2012, the BTWG released a discussion paper canvassing possible ways in which a cut to the company tax rate could be funded from within the business tax system. The topics covered include options for reforms of the existing thin cap rules and the 40% non-refundable R&D offset. The deadline for submissions is 21 Sept 2012. 

Government releases discussion paper on fixed trusts

The Assistant Treasurer and Minister Assisting for Deregulation, David Bradbury, today announced the release of a discussion paper which invites stakeholder views on options for a more workable approach for fixed trusts. The closing date for submissions is 14 Sept 2012.
