Next year our advocacy efforts will be focusing on improving LP engagement, new support for the VC industry and completing the collective investment vehicle negotiations (eg, VCLP and MIT), which have been moving slowly but surely in the right direction. We will also continue the successful work of improving relationships with the media. A great example of the positive outcomes we’ve been getting is the coverage in the recent “Momentum” magazine (part of BRW), which has had several positive stories about PE-backed companies.
I’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate Dan Collins of Genesis Care for winning his section of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year awards. Genesis Care was in Advent’s portfolio until mid-2012 when they were sold to KKR.
Congratulations are also due to Bill Clarkson of Lorna Jane (backed by CHAMP Ventures) for receiving the Growth Company CEO of the Year Award at the Growth Company Awards. These awards are an initiative of AVCAL members Deloitte, Sparke Helmore, Westpac and Macquarie Bank, as well as Private Equity Media.
I had the privilege of being involved in both sets of awards and came away really inspired by the range of successful high growth businesses that they both recognise. It gives one confidence that Australia’s future is so much more than a beach and a mine. The many PE-backed finalists in both sets of awards also are a great demonstration of the value that PE can bring to companies.
I want to congratulate Corey Payne, Chairman of AVCAL's Philanthropy Partner Future Direction Network, for receiving the NSW Young Australian of the Year 2012 award. Corey’s achievements both on and off the field have been remarkable and we're pleased to see his efforts recognised.
I'd like to welcome a new member to our team. Many of you may know that Vivek has left to study for an MBA and we have a new Research Analyst, Kosta Sinelnikov, who has just started with us. I hope those of you who interact regularly with our Research team will make him feel welcome.
Finally, I’d like to wish you all the best for the holiday season. I hope you all have a relaxing well-earned break over the Christmas period and a chance to recharge the batteries for 2013. The AVCAL team will be doing the same and the office will be closed from 5 pm, 21 December, until 2 January.
