AVCAL key highlights 2013-14

With the support of its members, AVCAL has been able to continue advancing the interests of the private equity and venture capital industry by re-aligning our strategy to meet the needs of our stakeholders and making significant progress on our new key priorities for 2014. A summary of what we have achieved in the last 12 months is outlined below.

Policy & Advocacy

Made 13 submissions to various inquiries and reviews, including:
Created a series of industry roundtables to engage members with the AVCAL CEO and current industry issues.
Developed 'Building Better Businesses' industry tagline - the theme of our AVCAL alpha conference®.
Showcased 1200+ locations of investee companies held by AVCAL member VC and PE firms.
Produced 9 key research reports and fact sheets part of AVCAL’s research programme for the Australian private equity and venture capital industries.

Investor Engagement

Conducted a study in association with Rothschild, which looked at post-IPO performance of PE and non-PE backed listings in Australia.
Held our second investor forum in Melbourne with more planned for 2015.
Doubled LP and Senior GP involvement in the AVCAL alpha conference® compared to previous years.
Worked with LP and GP members to produce information decks (login required) tailored for use by/for various LP audiences.

Connected Community

Appointed Yasser El-Ansary as the new AVCAL CEO in November 2013.
Developed AVCAL Connect as a key networking mechanism for newer entrants to PE & VC industry. All three were sell-out events with the programme to continue in 2015.
Established Women in AVCAL (WAVCAL) working group.
Moved AVCAL alpha conference® to Melbourne to be closer to the investor community
Held more than 475 1-on-1 meetings with members across Australia to determine how AVCAL can deliver even greater value to members in everything we do.
Nearly 100 people learned about Australian PE at 4 PE101 courses in NSW and VIC. AVCAL is scoping interest for these courses in WA, QLD and SA.
Future Directions Network named AVCAL and CHAMP scholarship recipients.
