Become a Member

Membership of AVCAL comprises investor groups, fund managers, banks, advisers, accountants, lawyers, government bodies, academic institutions and other parties associated with the industry. A listing of membership categories appears at the bottom of this page.

All members of AVCAL must undertake to abide by the Association's constitution and code of conduct.

Application for Membership

  • Form
    All applications for membership must be made in writing via the attached electronic form.
  • Council consideration
    All applications shall be considered by the council and shall be approved by a simple majority of the council present voting.
  • Refusal
    The council shall at its sole discretion and without providing reasons for its decision decline to admit any applicant to membership of the association.
  • Notice of acceptance
    When an applicant has been accepted for membership the applicant will be sent written notice of its acceptance and a request for payment of the first annual membership fee. Upon payment of the first annual membership fee the applicant shall become a member of the association.
  • Fees
    All applicants must pay to the association, within thirty (30) days from the date notified by the council, such membership fees as stated on the Application for Membership form.

Membership Year

The membership year of the association is the financial year.

Membership Categories

AVCAL membership categories are listed below. Please select the category of membership for which you wish to apply, and then proceed to the electronic Application for Membership form.

Venture Capitalists are VC fund managers who have more than $15 million under management, and who act as principal or agent for venture capital investor(s). AVCAL's venture capitalist members are required to:

  1. Invest primarily in unlisted Australian and New Zealand business enterprises.
  2. Use AVCAL's valuation guidelines & disclosure guidelines.
  3. Support the AVCAL-endorsed industry benchmarking survey conducted by Venture Economics.
  4. Uphold AVCAL's constitution and code of conduct.
Venture Capital Firms
Manage more than $15 million, as principal, or agent, and invest primarily in unlisted Australian & New Zealand Companies.

National Corporate's
Suppliers of services to the Australian venture capital industry. They have more than one office nationally, or more than 20 employees.

Regional Corporate's
Suppliers of services to the Australian venture capital industry. They have only one office nationally and fewer than 20 employees.

Government
Government departments or teaching/research institutions.

Angels
High net-worth individuals (or groups) who invest in unlisted Australian and New Zealand companies.

Incubators
Organisations that provide assistance to entrepreneurs who wish to establish a business.

Institutional Investors
Provide capital to venture capital managers.

Individuals
People with an interest in the venture capital industry.
