Dear AVCAL Colleague,
Thanks for your
support for the last year. It's hard to believe we're almost into
2011. First let me wish you all a happy, healthy and safe holdiay
season. Whether you are swimming, sailing, skiing or simply
relaxing and recharging the batteries, I hope you have a lovely
break.
2011 has been a pretty huge year for AVCAL. We had a
substantial range of networking and professional development
programs including the very successful annual conference. We've
also had a record number of research papers which you can download
from our website.
On the advocacy front, we had some
significant wins including the MIT CGT legislation which will
benefit our members. We continue to work through the latest round
of final and draft determinations from the ATO. Andrew Rothery and
I had a positive meeting with Des Maloney the Deputy Chief Tax
Counsel of the ATO, to discuss the implications of the latest
releases and how AVCAL and the ATO can work together to make
compliance easier and more efficient. We also recently met with the
new Assistant Treasurer, Bill Shorten, to address on-going concerns
that will need legislative responses. An example is the VCLP which
needs to be brought into line with the MIT CGT legislation to ensure
an alignment of outcomes for investors.
So we see a busy year
ahead for all key delivery arms of AVCAL - advocacy, research and
member services (including events and professional development).
We're looking forward to working with our fantastic partners,
without whom we couldn't deliver such a large program. We owe them
a huge thanks for their continued support of the
industry.
Kind Regards
