Dear AVCAL Colleague
My colleagues and I
have spent quite a bit of time visiting members over the last four
weeks. The sentiments expressed in those meetings are of a
reasonably positive nature, despite the times. The industry is
working hard. One thing is clear, the members value the forum that
we provide and it is with that clear mandate that we continue our
work in advocacy, research, training and networking events.
I
mentioned education last time. This is really important as we look
to raise the professional benchmarks for the industry. I'd urge you
to consider registering for our Advanced Training Course in Private
Equity or our Foundation Course. More...
AVCAL
Submissions
On the advocacy front, we've been busy
meeting with our working groups, government departments and various
Ministers.
One issue that has arisen is a review of the
tax treatment of managed investment trusts. The AVCAL submission to
Board of Taxation can be downloaded here - Review of Managed Investment Trusts
AVCAL
has worked closely with the Dept of Industry, Innovation, Science
and Research and Minister Kim Carr, on a proposal to assist the VC
industry through the current financial crisis. We will let AVCAL
members know as soon as we have any news from DIISR and the Venture
Capital Committee.
In addition we are working on a submission
to the Australian Financial Centre Forum panel, about the barriers
to Australia becoming a regional hub for the financial services
sector. Assistant Treasurer Chris Bowen highlighted the
Government's vision for the sector at the Budget breakfast briefing
in May 08.
