Charities investing more in private equity

A survey of 147 institutions by investment manager Commonfund has found that private equity holdings in foundations rose significantly in the last year. This follows a long-term pattern of foundations increasingly investing in alternative strategies. The survey shows that in 2011, private equity accounted for around 25% of alternative investments, while venture capital represented 8% of alternatives.
